About Artist
Originally from Tehran, Iran, Sepidar Niroomand is a Berlin-based visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, installation, drawing and print. With a formal background in electronic engineering (B.Sc., 2008), She made a pivotal shift in pursuit of a deeper creative calling, earning a diploma in Sculpture and Design from Tehran University in 2017.
Since relocating to Berlin in 2022, Sepidar has been actively engaged as a freelance artist, participating in art residencies, group exhibitions, and cultural events across Europe. Currently in the final year of sculpture studies at the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin, her work continues to evolve both technically and thematically.
Sepidar’s early artistic explorations centered on the human form—particularly anatomy and portraiture—shaped by experiences within Tehran’s underground modeling communities. Over time, the work expanded to investigate the emotional spectrum, with themes such as love, joy, sorrow, dreams and nightmares and socioal-political unrest in Iran. These explorations have culminated in powerful series including Hope, Sketches for Flying and I Was Swimming Naked in Persian Gulf.
More recent projects like Embrace, I Was Swimming Naked in the Persian Gulf, and Plenitude—reflect a continued commitment to introspection, embodiment, and the poetics of personal and collective identity.
Beyond art, Sepidar is deeply committed to promoting social and political awareness, using creative expression as a platform to amplify dialogue, challenge norms, and foster connection.
Artist Statement
Through painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture, I embark on a path of self-expression. My creative process serves as a bridge between the unspoken realms within me and the world outside. Each work is a dialogue that begins internally and resonates outward, seeking connection. With every stroke of the brush, I reveal fragments of my aspirations, struggles, fears, and dreams, channeled through the language of form and color.
Every piece I create is a testament to my innermost passions and desires, a canvas on which I lay bare my history, hopes, and dreams. In the lines and curves, in every hue and shade, I express my deep connection to the vibrancy of life. My art becomes a mirror, holding the tapestry of my experience: past, present, and imagined future.
Through brush strokes and my color palette, I weave a narrative that captures the complexity of the human condition, particularly that of growing up in a woman’s body, within a system that seeks to deny, hide, or erase the presence of that body and its signs. To manifest one’s self, in its truest form, is a daily protest. Yet my expression remains a dance of contrasts: a delicate interplay between the obvious and the enigmatic, a silent conversation of form and shadow.
This tension allows me to explore the path of self-discovery, challenging myself to both reveal and conceal. Each moment immersed in creation is an act of joy, as I peel back the layers of my being.
My artistic practice is an inquiry into who I am, a calm search toward deeper self-understanding. It is a quest to capture the core of my identity and distill it onto the canvas. In this process, I bare myself with vulnerability and openness, allowing each work to stand as a marker along the way: an offering to those who observe, an invitation to interpret, or simply a moment for reflection.
Ultimately, my creations serve as mirror, window, and hiding place all at once. They hold what I am, offer a glimpse into the heart of my experience, and give me somewhere to disappear even as I stand exposed.
